Three facing firearms charges in weekend shooting

Police say they seized a loaded firearm from a vehicle that had been struck by bullets

Three young men are facing charges after a weekend shooting in Dartmouth.

Halifax Regional Police arrived on Camden Street late Saturday night after being told gunshots were heard in the area.

Responding officers found shell casings in the area and soon after, a man with gunshot wounds arrived at the hospital. His condition has previously been described as serious but non-life-threatening.

Police say, in another area of Dartmouth, they seized a loaded firearm from a vehicle that had been struck by bullets.

Three men ages 18, 19 and 20, are scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court today to face charges of:

• Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
• Unauthorized possession of a firearm
• Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized
• Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
• Unsafe storage of a firearm

Police do not believe the incident was random and their investigation continues.
