These cover domestic brush burning and campfires, however campfires in licensed private, municipal or provincial campgrounds with proper campfire facilities are exempt. As of Tuesday, March 15, the BurnSafe map will be updated daily at 2 p.m. Between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. each day, the map will be grey, which means burning is not allowed. After 2 p.m: if a county is shown in green, burning is permitted after 2 p.m. if a county is shown in yellow, burning is permitted after 7 p.m. if a county is shown in red, burning is not permitted that day. If internet service is spotty, you can get the information by calling 1-855-564-2876 (BURN). Nova Scotians also have to abide by their municipal burning bylaws. You can find HRM’s here. “As a former municipal fire chief, I know prevention is the best way to reduce the risk of wildfires. Restrictions are in place for the safety of our homes and communities.
