UPDATE: Just after 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning for the Halifax Regional Municipality.

It now says the storm may have a “significant impact” on rush hour traffic Friday afternoon.

“Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions,” the warning stated.

Another Friday, another storm.

A special weather statement is in effect for the Halifax Regional Municipality.

Environment Canada meteorologist Bob Robichaud said a low pressure system will pass south of the province tomorrow.

The snow should start falling in the Halifax area late morning or around lunchtime.

“We’re not expecting any major snowfall from this particular system. It’s not particularly strong and it’s tracking far off shore,” he explained.

Snowfall totals should come in around 10 to 15 cm in our area. Higher accumulation is expected to the west along the south shore.

As of 10 a.m. Thursday, the forecast high for Friday is -7, which Robichaud said should keep the snow light and fluffy.

That means it will be easy to shovel, but might blow around a bit, even though wind gusts are only expected to reach 40 km/h.

It also could be slippery on the drive home.

“I think the bulk of the snow is going to be after the commute, but it’s certainly looking like we’ll have at least a few centimetres down by 4 or 5 tomorrow afternoon,” Robichaud said.

The system should move out of our area after midnight. Saturday’s forecast is calling for sun with a high of -4.
