On Saturday, Nova Scotia is reporting that there are 79 people in the hospital who were admitted due to COVID-19.

The province’s Feb. 12 news release indicates those patients are all receiving specialized care in a designated COVID-19 unit.

Currently, there are 14 people in the ICU. Out of the 79 people in the hospital, 73 were admitted during the Omicron wave.

The age range of people in the hospital is between 9 and 93-years-old. The median age is 65.

Nova Scotia is also reporting two groups of people who are in the hospital related to COVID-19.

The first group includes 133 people who were identified as positive upon arrival at the hospital but were admitted for another medical reason or were admitted for COVID-19 but no longer require specialized care.

The other group totals 147 people who contracted COVID-19 after being admitted to the hospital.

On Feb. 4, Nova Scotia Health Authority labs completed 2,222 tests. The province also reports 309 new lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19.

Nova Scotia reports the following number of COVID-19 cases in the following health zones on Saturday:

  • Central: 122
  • Western: 86
  • Eastern: 51
  • Northern: 50

The province is issuing abbreviated COVID-19 releases over the weekend.

“The number of COVID-19 admissions and discharges to hospital is not available today,” the release says.
