RCMP were called to a home in Eastern Passage at around 8 p.m. They were told a man had pointed a firearm at someone inside and there had been a physical altercation. The victim was able to get out before police arrived and officers contained the home. Police took to Twitter just before 10 p.m. to say the road was closed near the corner with Cherylann Dr. After confirming the man was still inside, at around 11 p.m., Mounties started negotiating with him. They say the suspect surrendered to them at around 1:45 a.m. No one was hurt. Jason Andrew Purdy, 43, has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, two counts of uttering threats, two counts of unlawful confinement, two counts of pointing a firearm, four counts of assault, ten counts of unsafe storage of a firearm and 11 counts of careless use of a firearm.
