The atlantic director for the Retail Council of Canada says there’s no reason to panic about food availability despite what he calls “fear mongering”.

Jim Cormier’s comments come as that convoy protesting vaccine mandates on cross-border truckers spreads concern about impacts on the supply chain.

Cormier says there are challenges with the global supply chain that have been a reality throughout the pandemic, but there’s no reason to panic about running out of food.

“Despite some of the fear mongering going on out there, there’s generally not a real problem with the supply chain and food availability in Canada,” Cormier explained. “You might have to come back on a second day to get the exact type of banana you’re looking for, but for the most part you can get food that you want and need.”

Cormier says it’s a testament to the ability of the supply chain that we can live in Nova Scotia and have access to things like kiwi in the middle of the winter

The country’s transport minister says there’s been no “measurable impact” on the number of trucks crossing the border since the government’s vaccine mandate went into effect on Jan. 15.
