The Halifax Regional Municipality is enforcing the overnight winter parking ban for another night as the city sees another snow storm.

From 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. on Jan. 9, the overnight winter parking ban will continue to be enforced in both zones (Zone 1 – Central and Zone 2 – Non-Central).

“Vehicles must be off municipal streets during the hours noted above,” the HRM says in a news release. “Regardless of the status of an overnight winter parking ban, or whether you have received a notification, vehicles can be towed, day or night, at any time of year, if they are interfering with snow-clearing operations.”

Police will also be ticketing vehicles blocking sidewalk snow clearing, including any vehicles hanging out of driveways or parked on the sidewalk.

The HRM says people should never clear snow from their property onto the street or sidewalk. Snow should be piled onto people’s own property.

People should also remove any planters, lawn decorations and other portable objects near their sidewalk.

Permanent structures or objects too big to move should be marked with reflectors so snow clearing crews can see them.

“Think before you park this winter – it will help make the season a little easier on everyone,” the HRM says.
