The Department of Education and Early Childhood Development says it is funding 277 more inclusive education positions this school year, including teacher assistants and school counsellors; autism and behavioural support specialists; school psychologists and speech language pathologists; and African Nova Scotian and Mi’kmaq student support workers. Minister Becky Druhan said the province is focused on ensuring all students are given the chance to succeed. “Inclusive education supports the mandate of the Students First report,” she said in a news release. “This is about building a strong network around students, teachers and families so that everyone has the opportunity to thrive.” A team led by researchers from the University of Ottawa is currently conducting a three year review of the province’s Inclusive Education Policy.
