These sessions are for adults of all ages and cover topics such as healthy eating, physical activity, mental wellness, parenting, and reducing one’s health risks. All sessions are free for Nova Scotia residents and a valid Nova Scotia health card is required to register for most programs. If you find yourself wondering how you can get a better night’s sleep, or about the connection between what you eat and how you feel, or you want to improve your strength but are not sure where to start, or you’re looking for effective strategies to parent your teenager, then visit www.healthyns.ca and sign up for one of our programs today. “Our sessions are offered at different times throughout the day and week to help accommodate a variety of schedules,” said Sarah Manley, Consultant, Primary Health Care and Chronic Disease Management Network, Nova Scotia Health. “They provide participants with trusted information and skills to live a healthier life – all from the comfort of their own home. We’ve been offering our online wellness sessions for over a year now and they have been very well attended. We’re pleased to note that sessions fill up quickly and feedback has been very positive.” Nova Scotia Health’s wellness sessions are offered online in a friendly group setting using Zoom for Healthcare and are facilitated by health care professionals including dietitians, physiotherapists, social workers, and occupational therapists, as well as trained volunteers. Both single and multi-week sessions are available to appeal to those who are looking for basic information, to those looking to build skills, set goals and work on action plans to improve their health. Sessions fill up quickly. “I’ve learned something from each of the sessions that I have done so far [and] it was easy to join the group online,” said a participant. “I really liked that I could participate from home at a time that worked for me. I’ve been recommending these sessions to my friends.” Some of the online sessions consist of a series, such as Your Way to Wellness, which is a seven-week program that helps people with ongoing health conditions, such as diabetes or arthritis, to overcome daily challenges, take action and live a healthy life. This program is led by trained volunteers, most of whom have chronic conditions themselves.
