Supreme Court to take firmer stance on intimate violence The Criminal Code will soon be updated to allow the killer of an intimate partner to be charged with first-degree murder regardless of whether the act was premeditated. Bill C-225, which received royal assent in Parliament on Wednesday, will make first-degree murder applicable to killings that happen as part of a pattern of coercive or controlling conduct. The act will also help track incidents of intimate partner violence in Canada’s justice system by creating a specific offence for such attacks. Frank Caputo, Conservative MP for Kamloops-Thomson-Nicola, put forward the private member’s bill, which is rare they become law. The Criminal Code will be updated with the new offence in 30 days. Caputo called the legislation the “most consequential change” to the justice system in modern legal history when it comes to intimate partner violence. “No longer will you have assault being the charge when somebody abuses their intimate partner. It will be violence against an intimate partner,” he said. 0 comment 0 FacebookTwitterPinterestEmail admin previous post CITYnews halifax :Halifax police investigate after man found on street with stab wounds next post راديو كندا الدولي: توقيف مشتبهٍ به ثانٍ في قضية إطلاق النار على القنصلية الأميركية في تورونتو You may also like راديو كندا الدولي: رسم جمركي كندي على واردات... 20 يونيو، 2026 راديو كندا الدولي: أوتاوا وواشنطن أجرتا محادثات تجارية... 20 يونيو، 2026 راديو كندا الدولي: توقيف مشتبهٍ به ثانٍ في... 20 يونيو، 2026 CITYnews halifax :Halifax police investigate after man found... 20 يونيو، 2026 CITYnews halifax : Macdonald Bridge to see five... 20 يونيو، 2026 CITYnews halifax / Four rescued from fire aboard... 20 يونيو، 2026 CITYnews halifax: N.S. government and feds team up... 20 يونيو، 2026 CITYnews halifax : ‘Incredible strides’: 12-year-old Tumbler Ridge... 18 يونيو، 2026 CITYnews halifax : N.S. premier says future support... 18 يونيو، 2026 راديو كندا الدولي : منظمة العفو الدولية تتصدى... 18 يونيو، 2026
