CITYnews halifax / By Mark Hodgins

Police in Halifax have charged a man after an investigation into cloud-based storage of child pornography images.

Halifax Regional Police says its Internet Child Exploitation unit got a tip in 2025 that a person in the municipality was saving images of child pornography to a cloud-based service.

“As part of the investigation, a search was conducted at an address in Halifax yesterday,” read a media release from Cst. Martin Cromwell. “Electronic devices were seized for forensic analysis and the suspect was arrested.”

Police say David Mark Laing, 70, appeared in court on Thursday on one count of possession of child pornography.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is being asked to reach out to police or anonymously to Crime Stoppers.
