Mounties have charged a Queens County man with personating a police officer and stealing a dump truck.

On Boxing Day at roughly 9:20 p.m., a man approached an RCMP officer outside the Cookville detachment, where he said he was an RCMP sergeant who had just been transferred from another province.

Police said the suspect then tried to enter the detachment, and when the officer asked for identification, the man said he didn’t have any.

According to RCMP, the officer quickly confirmed that no RCMP personnel had recently transferred into the detachment, nor was anyone, outside of the officers on shift, expected to be at the detachment on that day. The man was arrested as a result.

Police said 43-year-old Christopher Allan MacLeod, of Liverpool, has been charged with personating a peace officer and breach of recognizance. He appeared in court and was released on conditions.

Then on Jan. 1, police responded to a report of someone stealing a dump truck from a garage on Devonshire Road in West Caledonia.

Mounties said while officers were on their way to the property the truck had been taken from, they saw the vehicle on Highway 3 in Liverpool.

Police then conducted a traffic stop and arrested the driver, who was identified as Christopher MacLeod.

According to investigators, MacLeod had entered the garage on Dec. 31 and stayed overnight before stealing the truck.

He’s facing additional charges include break and enter with intent, theft of motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime and fail to comply with order.
