Halifax Regional Police say an accident on Hwy 111 Monday morning in Dartmouth sent a number of people to hospital.

Police say they received reports shortly after 6 a.m. of a vehicle travelling northbound on the wrong side of the highway near Exit 5, followed by reports of a head-on collision near the Woodland Avenue on-ramp.

Officials say the occupants of both vehicles sustained serious injuries.

Southbound traffic between Woodland Avenue and Micmac Boulevard on Highway 111 is currently reduced to one lane and is expected to remain closed for an extended period.
