Resident rescued for third floor apartment fire

On person was treated for injuries after being rescued from an apartment fire late Friday night.

In a post on X, the Halifax Professional Fire Fighters (HPFF) union said fire services received reports of smoke coming from an partment inside a four-storey residential building on Kent Street in Halifax’s south end.

The call came shortly before midnight and within minutes the first firefighters were on the scene, the union said.

Responders confirmed there was a fire in a third floor unit and that there was a resident trapped inside.

HPFF said firefighters safely rescued the occupant and placed them in the care of Emergency Health Services (EHS).

In an email statement, a spokesperson for EHS told CityNews the person was treated at the scene.

Firefighters were able to prevent the spread of the fire to nearby units. The fire was extinguished in the unit of origin leaving minimal damage.

After air quality checks, residents were allowed back inside.

Fire Services have not stated the cause of the fire.
