Halifax council voted in favour of restricting infilling at Dartmouth Cove.

The decision landed 12 to 3 in favour of the bylaw amendments following an evening public hearing at city hall on Tuesday.

Councillors David Hendsbee, John Young and Mayor Andy Fillmore voted against the motion.

“We need to put a pause on things in Dartmouth Cove, allow the (Dartmouth Revitalization) planning process to unfold, and come to that common vision for what we want for this place that arises such passion and such interest,” said Councillor Sam Austin at the meeting.

The issue has been top of mind in the municipality, as a company has been looking to infill part of the cove for development.

Concerns have been raised about jurisdiction, as the federal government has been involved in discussions around that potential work.

Several members of the public spoke at the public hearing, speaking against the idea of infilling the cove.
