Teen arrested for making threats towards school in Middle Sackville

Police say they’ve arrested a youth for making threats towards students and staff at a school in Middle Sackville.

On Sept. 2, Mounties received a report that a youth made an online post threatening a school, its students and staff.

According to RCMP, a youth had posted a picture of themselves on school property, holding a firearm, while making threats to harm staff and students. Through the investigation, officers learned the firearm was an airsoft gun.

The 16-year-old was arrested at a home and charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

They have since been released on conditions and is expected to appear in court at a later date.

The RCMP warns that people, especially teens and youth, should think “carefully” before posting anything that could be seen as a threat.

“Think before you post,” says Cst. Mandy Edwards, Public Information Officer with RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment.  “A social media post intended to appear ‘cool’ could have lasting criminal consequences.”
