Halifax police arrested a dangerous person after the suspect crashed into multiple vehicles.

The situation happened Aug. 31, around 3:15 p.m. Police officers responded for reports of a two-vehicle crash near the 30 block of Fairfax Drive in Halifax. When they arrived, one of the drivers saw officers walking towards him and “reversed into a power pole and drove off at a high rate of speed,” the press release reads.

The vehicle ran a red light and hit several other vehicles while fleeing. Officers pursed the suspect but had to stop due to the traffic and safety concerns.

With help from the RCMP, officers were able to find the vehicle on Riverview Drive in Tantallon. The suspect was arrested and is facing a number of charges.

The 30-year-old is charged with:

  • Operation of a conveyance while impaired
  • Failure to stop after an acciden
  • Dangerous operation of a conveyance
  • Flight from peace officer
  • Mischief

He is expected to appear in court at a later date.

‘Threatened to inject drugs’

This wasn’t the only notable call for police over the long weekend. Officers said that over the three days, they responded to 1,052 calls.

In one of those instances, police charged a woman with robbery.

This incident happened on Aug. 30 around midnight, and began with officers being called for a robbery in progress at a Needs Convenience store on Duffus Street. According to the release, a woman entered the store and demanded money before threatening “to inject an employee with drugs.”

A brief physical altercation took place, before the employee was able to run out of the store and lock the suspect inside.

The woman threw the cash register at the glass front door shattering it, police described.

As a result, Kaily Kathleen Walkden, 29, was arrested and charged with:

  • Robbery
  • Uttering threats to cause bodily harm or death
  • Mischief
  • Obstruct public-peace officer
  • Bail violations (x2)
