Halifax RCMP lay attempted murder charge in case of intimate partner violence

A man has been arrested after a “serious assault” on the Eastern Shore that RCMP are calling a case of intimate partner violence.

According to police, officers were called to reports of an assault on the northern section of Lake Charlotte on July 16.

“Police learned that two people were on a boat when a man assaulted the other person,” police wrote in a media release. “The man then attempted to push the other person out of the boat before driving the boat back to shore in the southern part of the lake.”

The man was arrested a short time later after police say he tried briefly to flee on foot.

The 58-year-old man from Musquodoboit Harbour has been charged with several offences including attempted murder, assault by choking and uttering threats.

“Investigators confirm that the attempted murder is an incident of intimate partner violence,” police wrote. “To help protect the identity of the victim, Nova Scotia RCMP will not publish the name of the man charged.”

Police say it’s believed other boaters may have witnessed the incident. Anyone boating on the lake between 10 a.m. and 2:50 p.m. on July 16 is asked to reach out to the RCMP.
