A sudden death in Dartmouth last year has been ruled a homicide, according to Halifax Regional Police.

On Dec. 22, 2024, officers responded to Geary Street where a man had been assaulted by a woman.

Police said paramedics responded but the man declined medical attention and further police investigation.

A few days later on Dec. 26, police responded to another call to Geary Street where the same man was found dead in a tent. He was identified as 56-year-old Jeffrey Alexander Emmerson.

Last week, the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service ruled the death to be a homicide

Police are now investigating the murder and are looking for the woman involved in the assault.

She is described as white, 20-25 years old, 4’10” tall, medium build with shoulder length dark hair and at the time, she was wearing a blue jacket and red sweatpants.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
