Dalhousie University’s Department of Athletics has signed a deal with the Halifax Tides FC to host their official training facility.

The Halifax Tides, who brought women’s professional soccer to the Maritimes, will train at Wickwire field, located on Studley Campus in Halifax. The field is just minutes from the Tides’ home at Wanderers Grounds. The Tides will become the name branded tenants of the field, with a dedicated locker room and access to a high performance room and pool on campus.

Lewis Page, head coach of the Tides expressed his gratitude for the exceptional facility.

“Dalhousie University is an excellent venue for the Halifax Tides to train. The ability to have all the services we need to run a professional team in one location is outstanding,” he said in a news release “The standard of the facilities and the professionalism of the staff at Dalhousie will allow us to create a truly high-performance environment for our players and staff.”

But the partnership does more than just provide a field for the team to practice. it is a testament to the dedication both the university and the team have to supporting women’s sports.

“We are excited to be the official training centre for the Tides and do our part to help ensure the successful launch of professional women’s soccer in Halifax,” Tim Maloney, associate vice-president, athletics and ancillary services at Dalhousie, said in a news release.

The Tides’ inaugural season began on April 26. Their next game is May 17 at 2 p.m. Tickets are available online.
