Cogswell District Redevelopment Project reaches new milestone

A project to revitalize downtown Halifax is one step closer to completion.

In a May update, the city listed new developments which include:

  • completion of the Barrington Street Transit Terminal;
  • new traffic pole structures;
  • new sections of sidewalk;
  • opening of the western lanes of Upper Water Street; and
  • developed electrical infrastructure.

One of the biggest ticket items to complete in the summer is the redevelopment of Granville Park. The city notes that it is working to complete concrete sidewalks, plinth seating and new planter curbs.

The entire project is the biggest city-building project in the history of Halifax, supporting 2,500 people, with a total cost of approximately $138.1 million. Some residents have taken to social media to express their excitement over the revitalization project.

Many residence expressed their gratitude for more greenspace and walkability, while others stated their excitement for a place to gather away from the hustle and bustle of downtown

It’s been a long time coming but the project is expected to be completed in the fall/winter of 2025.
