The Royal Canadian Navy says the commander of a warship currently deployed to the Indo-Pacific region has been removed.

In a statement on Friday afternoon, Vice-Admiral Angus Topshee said Commander Adriano Lozer had been relieved of his duties as the Commanding Officer of HMCS Ottawa.

The statement said Lozer’s removal was due to a “loss of confidence”.

“The incidents that gave rise to this decision do not concern any form of misconduct,” the statement read.

Commander Landon Creasy, former Commanding Officer with HMCS Regina, will assume command and continue Ottawa’s deployment.

Lozer, the statement says, will serve in other roles within Maritime Forces Pacific when he returns to Canada.
