Hot water overflow, not chemical leak, prompted emergency response at Halifax brewery

A spokesperson for Labbat says it was a hot water overflow, and not a chemical spill, that led to a large Halifax Fire response at the Oland Brewery on Thursday.

Wade Keller told CityNews, steam from the overflow around 10 a.m. Thursday morning triggered the fire alarm, and it was initially treated as a chemical leak because crews didn’t know which tank the water came from.

Halifax Fire had earlier said a “caustic material” had spilled out of a container but there was no risk to the public.

No injuries were reported and the Hazmat team has since cleared the brewery.

Production at the facility has resumed Thursday afternoon.
