MacDonald Bridge to close this weekend for maintenance work

The MacDonald Bridge will be closed to vehicle traffic this weekend as maintenance work continues.

The closure will begin Friday at 7 p.m. and reopen Monday at 5:30 a.m.

“The work planned this weekend includes the replacement of bearings which help mitigate the destructive effects of shock and vibration caused by traffic,” said Halifax Harbour Bridges spokesperson Steven Proctor. “This effort concludes HHB’s multi-year program to replace the bearings used in the original construction of the bridge.”

HHB said the pedestrian walkway and bike lane will be open during this time, although there may be short, intermittent delays.
