Crews responded this morning to a natural gas leak on Monique Avenue in Dartmouth that closed several streets.

Both Halifax police and fire responded to the scene at about 11:47 a.m. Monique Avenue between Farthington Place and Leamon Drive was closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic until early afternoon.

“Our firefighters worked together with company representatives from Eastward Energy (the natural gas utility)  to determine any spread of gas in the area,” Dave Meldrum, Deputy Chief of Halifax Fire and Emergency, told CityNews. ” A precautionary evacuation was ordered which results in the public alert.”

No injuries were reported as a result of the leak.
