Police in Halifax warning people of an ongoing scam involving bail money

Halifax Regional Police (HRP) are warning residents to watch out for a scam that sees a relative ask for bail money.

According to a news release, HRP received a report on July 15 that a person pretending to be a family member made a call saying they needed bail money. Another person, posing as a person of authority gave instructions on how the money would be collected.

The suspect then reportedly arrived at the victim’s residence on Chipstone Close to collect the money.

The person believed to be responsible is described as a white man in his 30s or 40s, with blue eyes and is about six tall with an average build with thin arms and dark eyebrows.

The HRP wants to remind people to be suspicious of emails or phone calls asking for money and to make sure the person making these communications is legitimate before providing any money or information.
