Rainfall warnings issued as residents in parts of HRM brace for more rain

CITYnews halifax / By Dan Ahlstrand

Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for an area stretching from Halifax County east of Porters Lake through Cape Breton as more rain falls on the region.

The national forecaster says an extended episode of heavy rain is expected through Wednesday and into Thursday morning, with amounts ranging from 60-120mm.  Forecasters say a southerly flow will direct rain from the subtropics into eastern Nova Scotia with rainfall rates reaching 15 mm per hour in some areas.

Environment Canada says storms like this in the past have caused flash flooding and water pooling on roads and, in some instances, have seen rivers break their banks.

For the remaining areas of HRM and regions to the west and south of the city, showers are expected through the day today and into the evening hours before they taper off overnight.
