Temperature records fall as strong December storm passes through region

It was a wild weather day in Nova Scotia on Monday as a December storm brought strong winds and temperatures in the high teens.

Those high temperatures saw no less than 10 temperature records fall or be tied across Nova Scotia, including one at Halifax Stanfield International Airport:

  • Antigonish Area: New record of 16.1. The old record of 15.7 was set in 2012.
  • Cheticamp Area: New record of 18.5. The old record of 18.3 was set in 1966
  • Greenwood Area: New record of 18.0. The old record of 17.8 was set in 1950
  • Halifax (Airport) Area: New record of 15.3. The old record of 14.1 was set in 2012
  • Ingonish Area: New record of 16.9.  The old record of 16.7 was set in 1966
  • Kejimkujik National Park:  Tied record of 15.2 set in 1993
  • Kentville Area: New record of 16.8. The old record of 16.7 was set in 1950
  • Parrsboro Area:  New record of 16.7. The old record of 16.1 was set in 1966
  • Port Hawkesbury Area:  New record of 15.2 Old record of 14.7 set in 2012
  • Truro Area:  New record of 17.0.  The old record of 15.6 was set in 1969

As for the wind, Halifax Stanfield International Airport data showed a peak gust on Monday at 91 km/h.

CityNews Weather Specialist says the weather will improve Tuesday, and with the exception of a chance of some showers passing through on Wednesday, the remainder of the week should be dry with a sun and cloud mix throughout.
