Storm knocks out power for thousands of Nova Scotians

Thousands of Nova Scotians are in the dark on Monday as a powerful storm brought with it very strong winds.

Environment Canada issued a wind warning for all of Nova Scotia, calling for wind gusts up to 100 km/h.

As of 7 p.m., more than 60,000 Nova Scotia Power customers were without power.

More than 13,000 of those customers were in the Halifax area. The outage map showed restoration times varying from 8 p.m. Monday to as late as 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

The storm also impacted traffic on the Mackay Bridge which was closed to heavy and high sided vehicles.
