A deputy chief with Halifax Fire said a “significant” fire in Spryfield was quickly knocked down by firefighters on Thursday morning.

Dave Medlrum told CityNews crews were called to Sylvia Ave. just after 10 a.m. There they found a home heavily involved in fire, quickly bringing the blaze under control.

“One person is being treated by Emergency Health Services paramedics for what appears to be non-life threatening injuries,” Meldrum said. “No other injuries have been reported.”

Meldrum said workers with Eastward Energy were on the scene responding to a small natural gas leak, which was not believed to pose any risk to the surrounding area.

As of 11 a.m., Meldrum said he expected traffic to be blocked on Sylvia Ave. for another one or two hours.
