Lt.-Gov. Arthur J. LeBlanc handed out the 49th annual Provincial Volunteer Awards to 67 deserving recipients at a special ceremony. During the event, LeBlanc specifically noted this summer’s North American Indigenous Games, and how volunteers helped make the event a success in spite of heavy rain and severe weather. Three specialty awards were also presented at the ceremony in Halifax: the Youth Volunteer Award, the Family Volunteer Award and the Nova Scotia Strong Award. The recipient of the Nova Scotia Strong award was the Rath Eastlink Community Centre in Truro, which notably acted as a comfort centre during Post Tropical Storm Fiona. General Manager Matt Moore accepted the prize, saying the award was a symbol of the selfless contributions made by volunteers.
