مدينة البحيرات السبع. أساطير حول النهر تمتع هذا النهر بمكانة خاصة لدى الإغريق، واعتبرته الأساطير أحد أنهار العالم السفلي الخمسة، وكانوا يعتقدون أنه يجب أن تمر به الأرواح بعد الموت لتتطهر وتنسى آلامها وآثامها، ومن شرب منه نسي كل الحزن الذي مر في حياته. وكانت تحيط به في الماضي، حدائق هيسبيريدس ، ومنها “حديقة التفاح الذهبي” التي أهداها كي لهيرا بمناسبة زواجها من زيوس، كبير الآلهة عند اليونانيين. وحرست ثلاث حوريات هذه الحدائق بصحبة لادون، التنين العظيم الذي يملك 70 ألف رأس، وفي كل رأس 70 عين و700 ناب، وينفث ناراً طولها ألف ذراع، تذيب صلب الحديد وتخترق الجبال. طريق شاق إلى القاع النزول إلى الكهف المؤدي إلى نهر النسيان يتم عبر سلم حجري تحيط به البساتين. ويتميز الكهف بارتفاع جدرانه، وفي داخله ثلاث مغارات، تنتقل من الأولى لتجد نفسك في الثانية، وهي ذات قبة عالية يقدّر ارتفاعها بخمسة عشر متراً، تتصل بالمغارة الثالثة بممر لا يتجاوز ارتفاعه نصف المتر. كانت هناك العديد من المحاولات لدخوله ومعرفة نهاية جريانه، إذ يُروى أن أحد الباشوات في العهد التركي ركب قارباً وتوغل في الكهف لمدة ثماني ساعات وعاد من دون أن يصل إلى نهايته. كما يُروى أيضاً أن عدداً من الجنود الإنجليز أثناء الحرب العالمية الثانية استقلوا زورقاً وتوغلوا في الكهف ولم يتمكنوا من العودة. وتبقى أبرز الزيارات إلى أعماق الكهف، وصولاً إلى النهر العجيب، تلك التي قامت بها بعثة رسمية تابعة لهيئة الآثار الليبية والمكونة من غطاسين وعدد من المرافقين. رحلة كشف إلى الأعماق يقول مدير مكتب آثار بنغازي عبد المنعم العمروني في حديث لـ “اندبندنت عربية” حول الكهف والرحلة الاستكشافية “قبل أن نغوص في أعماق التاريخ، لنتحدث عن أهمية المكان قديماً، حيث استغله الملك إدريس السنوسي ملك ليبيا الأول بعد استقلالها كمكان للاستجمام. وفي تلك الفترة ما بين منتصف خمسينيات القرن الماضي وستينيّاته، زار الموقع باحث إيطالي يُقال إنه ألقى صبغة حمراء اللون داخل مياه الكهف، لتظهر بعد أيام في بحيرات شمال بنغازي الشهيرة على بعد 11 كيلومتراً من موقع الكهف، كتأكيد على أن نهر الليثون هو المغذي لهذه البحيرات في جريانه تحت الأرض”. ثلاث كهوف وما خفي أعظم أما رئيس وحدة الآثار الغارقة في مكتب آثار بنغازي نجمي عصمان وأحد الغطاسين الذين خاضوا غمار بوضع القرفصاء لانخفاض سقف الفتحة، ولم نلاحظ وجود أي نوع من الكائنات الحية سوى نوع صغير من القشريات أشبه بالقريدس، لكنه صغير جداً والمياه على درجة عالية من العذوبة ولم يُحدد حتى الآن المصدر الرئيس الذي تنبع منه”. ويضيف “وصلنا إلى الكهف الثالث على أمل التوغل أكثر في المرات القادمة، وتأمين المعدات اللازمة لذلك، نظراً إلى خطورة الغطس في التجويفات الأرضية”. ظل الظروف التي تعيشها ليبيا حالياً بإقفال المكان للحفاظ عليه من العبث الذي طال أماكن أثرية عدة في ليبيا، فكثيرون من زواره لا يدركون الأهمية الحقيقية التاريخية والسياحية له، وبعضهم لم يسمع بالحكايات المدهشة حول نهر “الليثون”. نهر “الليثون” في الأدب العالمي اعتماداً على اعتقاد الأولين بأن الأرواح تشرب من “الليثون” لنسيان حياتها السابقة، كان هذا الاعتقاد الأسطوري مدعاةً لأن يحفل الأدب الإنساني بالاستعمال الرمزي للنهر، فورد ذكره في “الكوميديا الإلهية” لدانتي، وفي قصيدة عن الكآبة لجون كيتس، وعمل “دون جوان” للورد بايرون، وقصيدة “النائم” لإدغار آلان بو، كما أن لبودلير قصيدة تحمل اسم هذا النهر. أما شكسبير، فقد خصه بالذكر في ثلاث من كبرى مسرحياته. وفي الأدب الحديث، نجده حاضراً بقوة في مسرحية “الجمرة” للكاتب الأيرلندي صموئيل بيكيت. وكتب لوقيانوس السميساطي على لسان الفيلسوف ديوجين في مؤلفه الطريف “مسامرات الأموات”، وهو رحلة متخيَّلة إلى العالم الآخر على طراز “رسالة الغفران” لأبي العلاء المعري أو “الكوميديا الإلهية” لدانتي، أن على الإسكندر المقدوني أن يشرب من نهر “ليثي”، إذا أراد نسيان الأحزان التي سببتها له فلسفة معلمه أرسطو في حياته. ولعل مختصر القول وأجمله في وصف بهاء النهر الغامض الذي يجمع بين الحقيقة والخيال والأسطورة، ما قاله شاعران كبيران في تاريخ الأدب العالمي، إذ قال
