اندبندنت عربية /انطوان جوكي نعرف حلا عليان كاتبة أميركية من أصول فلسطينية، لها أربع مجموعات شعرية ورواية بعنوان “بيوت الملح” (2017) تناولت فيها موضوع الشتات الفلسطيني عبر سردها قصة أربعة أجيال من عائلة واحدة. في روايتها الثانية، “مدينة مشعلي الحرائق”، التي صدرت حديثاً في نيويورك عن دار “هاوتون ميفلين هاركور”، ها هي تحط في لبنان وتنير فصولاً محورية من تاريخه الحديث، عبر سردها المآسي الحميمة والخيانات التي عصفت بواحدة من عائلاته على مدى خمسة عقود. أحداث هذه الرواية الضخمة (443 صفحة) تنطلق مع مقتل شاب يدعى زكريا في مخيم للاجئين الفلسطينيين في بيروت عام 1978، كرد على جريمة شارك في ارتكابها وهو مراهق مع أصدقاء له. وقبل أسبوع من ذلك، نعرف أنه خان صديقه الحميم، اللبناني إدريس نصر، مع شابة سورية تدعى مزنة كان هذا الأخير متيماً بها. حدثان متفرقان لا يلبثا أن يظللا صفحات الرواية مع انكشاف آثارهما تدريجياً على أفراد عائلة نصر. البيت العائلي إدريس ومزنة التقيا قبل فترة قصيرة من هذين الحدثين، هو كان يعيش في بيروت ويدرس الطب، وهي كانت ممثلة شابة تعيش مع عائلتها في دمشق. لكن قبل أن نعرف أي شيء عن بداية علاقتهما، تنقلنا الرواية إلى أميركا عام 2019، حيث نرى إدريس طبيباً جراحاً يعيش في كاليفورنيا مع مزنة التي تزوجها بعد أسابيع قليلة من مقتل زكريا وأنجب منها ثلاثة أولاد، آفا التي تعيش مع زوجها نايت في بروكلين، ميمي الذي يعيش مع صديقته هاربر في أوستين (تكساس)، ونجلا التي تعيش وحدها في بيروت. وحين يتوفى والده يقرر إدريس بسرعة بيع المنزل العائلي، مما يدفع مزنة إلى استدعاء أولادها الثلاثة إلى اجتماع في بيروت لإنقاذ هذا المنزل الذي تعتبره، “الشيء الوحيد على أرض عربية الذي ما زلنا نملكه”. عودة إلى مكان يحمل معاني مختلفة لكل منهم. هكذا يصبح هذا المنزل بسرعة محور أحداث الرواية، فللإفلات من مللها في دمشق، تزوره مزنة الشابة وتمضي فيه ليالي عدة، كي تكون مع إدريس وزكريا. وبينما تبدو نجلا متعلقة بهذا المنزل وبذكرياتها فيه، لا يشعر ميمي وآفا بأي رابط به، لكنهما يرضخان لمشيئة أمهما بالمجيء إلى بيروت بعذر تنظيم حفلة تأبين لجدهما المتوفى، في حين أن الهدف الحقيقي من هذا الاجتماع هو ثني إدريس عن قراره بيع هذا المنزل. اجتماع يتبين خلاله أن كل واحد من أفراد هذه العائلة يخفي أسراراً ومشكلات شخصية عن الآخرين. رواية “مدينة مشعلي الحرائق” (دار هاوتون ميلفين هاركور) نجلا التي بلغت سن الـ 30، موسيقية ومغنية تتمتع بشهرة دولية، لكنها لم تقل بعد لأحد من عائلتها بأنها مثلية. آفا الأربعينية والمتخصصة في علم الجراثيم تشتبه في أن زوجها على علاقة غرامية بواحدة من زميلاته. ميمي، الذي يكبر نجلا بعامين، موسيقي مثل أخته، لكنه يغار منها لأنه لم يحصد أي نجاح في فنه. وقبل مجيئه إلى بيروت، أقدم على تقبيل الشابة آلي، رفيقته في الفرقة الموسيقية التي أسسها، مما أدى إلى انحلال الفرقة. أما أمهم مزنة، التي لم تنطفئ شعلة حبها لزكريا ولم تهضم فشل حلمها بأن تصبح ممثلة شهيرة، فأمضت سنين زواجها في خيانة إدريس وفي التعرض للخيانة من قبله، وإن بطريقة مختلفة. قصة عائلة وبلد باختصار، قصة عائلة غنية بالتفاصيل والتطورات لا تلبث أن تتحول تحت أنظارنا إلى قصة بلد، لبنان، تقرأ عليان ظروفه وأحداثه التاريخية الحديثة بمهارة ومعرفة لافتتين، ملقية في طريقها نظرة بصيرة على إرث الحروب المتتالية فيه، وعلى الحقائق الاجتماعية والسياسية التي تحكمت بالعلاقات المتشابكة والمعقدة التي تربطه بجيرانه، وعموماً، على الطريقة التي نتعلق فيها بالأشخاص والأماكن التي تشكل مجتمعةً وطناً لنا. لكن هذا لا يعني أن قصة عائلة نصر مجرد ذريعة لهذه القراءة السوسيولوجية – التاريخية، فقيمة الرواية تكمن أيضاً في الرسم الحاذق والدقيق فيها لأفراد هذه العائلة، الذين يحضرون بدرجة كبيرة من التعقيد. وفي هذا السياق، اعتمدت عليان لتجسيدهم وقفات ذكية عند لحظات عادية أو مهمة من حياتهم، قادرة على كشف مختلف جوانب شخصياتهم أفضل من أي تحليل سيكولوجي تقليدي، تكمن أيضاً في حبكتها المحكمة على الرغم من تعقيدها الكبير، وفي سلاسة السرد وتلك المهارة في القفز داخل الزمن الذي يعزز جانب التشويق فيها. وثمة بُعد آخر مهم في “مدينة مشعلي الحرائق” أشارت الكاتبة إليه بنفسها في أحد الحوارات التي أجريت معها: “أردتُ كشف الأكاذيب التي نرويها، والأسرار التي نحفظها عن أنفسنا وتلك التي نحفظها عن الأشخاص الذين نحبهم، وكيف يتردد صداها من جيل إلى آخر”. لكن فتنة الرواية ووقعها القوي على قارئها يعودان أيضاً إلى كون صاحبتها عالمة نفسانية عيادية تعير انتباهاً شديداً للتفاصيل الصغيرة، وتعرف أياً من الأسئلة يتوجب طرحها لدى تشييد شخصياتها أو تأملها في سلوك كل منها. ولأن عليان شاعرة قبل أي شيء، حظي نصها أيضاً بهاجس دقة التعبير لديها، وبقدرتها على شحذ لغة قادرة على التقاط أرهف المشاعر، وهو ما يظهر بقوة في الصفحات الأخيرة من الرواية التي لا تشكل فقط خير حل لحبكتها وخير مآل لفيض أحداثها، بل تثير فينا انفعالات جمة وحدها قفلة قصيدة محكمة قادرة على إثارتها. أما لماذا بيروت إطاراً جغرافياً رئيسياً للرواية، فلأن الكاتبة درست فيها وأحبتها إلى حد أن رغبة قوية تملكتها في إسقاط عمل روائي داخلها، كما أسرت بذلك إلى أحد الصحافيين. ومن هذا المنطلق وصفت عملها الأخير بـ “رسالة حب إلى بيروت”، وعبرت عن أسفها الشديد لما عانته في الفترة الأخيرة تلك “المدينة الأرِقة التي تعمل على
