الناجمة بشكل حاد عن المرض أدت لوفاته، مؤكداً أنه لم يتعرض لحادثة اغتيال، كما كشف تحليل الحمض النووي والمسح بالأشعة المقطعية أن الملك أخناتون هو والد الملك توت عنخ آمون. المقبرة الذهبية ووصف الأثري الكهنة قديماً كانوا مهرة في صناعة السموم والغازات المميتة، كانوا يستخدمون ذلك في تحصين المقابر الفرعونية قبل إغلاقها لحمايتها من اللصوص، كما هو معلوم أن المصريين القدماء هم أول من اكتشف وزرع النباتات السامة لأغراض متعددة. وأضاف أن الدراسات التي أجريت على بعض العينات الخاصة ببعض المقابر الفرعونية الملكية في الأقصر تبين وجود نسب كبيرة من مواد الفورمالدهيد وكبريتيد الهيدروجين والأمونيا، كلها مواد سامة تقتل الإنسان الذي يستنشقها أو يلامسها، ما يعزز صحة هذه الدراسات. كما أن الأثري محمد زكريا أول من توفى مباشرة يوم اكتشاف المقبرة، وقد أثبتت الأبحاث أنه جرح بآلة حادة مسممة داخل المقبرة أدت لوفاته،
