شهدت السنوات الأخيرة تقمص جوائز البافتا بكل سرور دور كلب الحراسة المخلص للأوسكار، واحتفالها على نطاق واسع بالإنتاجات الغريبة التي يفضلها الأميركيون وتجنبها امتلاك هوية واضحة.
كان العام الماضي انتكاسة، حين تجاهل الناخبون عدداً كبيراً من الأفلام البريطانية، والمخرجات والممثلين الملونين، ومع ذلك كان هناك مجال لمنح فيلم “الجوكر” Joker، أحد عشر ترشيحاً وترشيحين لكن من سكارليت جوهانسون ومارغوت روبي. كانت هناك حاجة إلى إصلاح جذري شامل، وانعكس ذلك في الجوائز الممنوحة خلال المسابقة.
