أعلنت بريطانيا الاثنين أنها ستنضم إلى الولايات المتحدة “في قوة الأمن البحرية الدولية” لحماية السفن التجارية في مضيق هرمز وسط تصاعد التوتر مع إيران. وصرح وزير الخارجية البريطاني دومينيك راب في بيان “ستعزز هذه القوة الأمن وتوفر الطمأنينة للملاحة”.
وقال الوزير إن إعلانه الاثنين لا يغير شيئا في سياسة المملكة تجاه إيران. وشدد “نبقى ملتزمين بالعمل مع إيران وشركائنا الدوليين لنزع فتيل التفجير والإبقاء على الاتفاق النووي”.
وباتت حركة مرور ناقلات النفط عبر المضيق محور مواجهة بين واشنطن وطهران وانجرت بريطانيا إلى تلك المواجهة أيضا فيما عززت الولايات المتحدة وجودها العسكري في الخليج منذ مايو/ أيار.
وتسعى واشنطن إلى إنشاء تحالف دولي لمرافقة السفن التجارية في الخليج لكن لا يبدو أنها تمكنت من جذب الكثير من الدول، وبدا حلفاء واشنطن متوجسين من جرهم إلى نزاع مفتوح في المنطقة.
وقبل هذا الإعلان كانت لندن قالت في تموز/يوليو أنها ترغب في تشكيل قوة حماية مع الأوروبيين وذلك إثر احتجاز طهران ناقلة نفط ترفع العلم البريطاني في مضيق هرمز. ففي الشهر الماضي احتجز الحرس الثوري الإيراني الناقلة البريطانية ستينا إمبرو قرب مضيق هرمز بزعم أنها ارتكبت مخالفات بحرية. وجاء ذلك بعد أسبوعين من احتجاز بريطانيا ناقلة نفط إيرانية قرب جبل طارق متهمة إياها بانتهاك العقوبات على سوريا.
وقال وزير الدفاع بن والاس للصحفيين “بريطانيا عازمة على ضمان حماية عمليات الشحنة الخاصة بها من التهديدات غير القانونية ولذلك السبب ننضم اليوم إلى مهمة بحرية أمنية جديدة في الخليج”.
وتابع “نتطلع إلى العمل مع الولايات المتحدة وآخرين لإيجاد حل دولي للمشكلات في خليج هرمز”.
وتنشر بريطانيا حاليا المدمرة دنكان والفرقاطة مونتروز في الخليج لمرافقة السفن التي تحمل العلم البريطاني في المضيق. وقال مسؤولون بريطانيون إن المدمرة والفرقاطة رافقتا 47 سفينة حتى الآن.
وقال وزير الخارجية الإيراني محمد جواد ظريف في وقت سابق الاثنين إن طهران لم تعد تحتمل “الجرائم البحرية” في المضيق.
وهددت إيران بوقف كل الصادرات عبر المضيق الذي يمر منه خمس النفط العالمي، إذا استجابت الدول الأخرى إلى الضغط الأمريكي لوقف شراء النفط الإيراني.
وقال وزير الخارجية البريطاني دومينيك راب إن الخطوة الأخيرة لا تمثل تغييرا في النهج إزاء إيران وإن بريطانيا ستظل ملتزمة بالعمل مع إيران للحفاظ على الاتفاق النووي المبرم في 2015 مقابل رفع العقوبات عن طهران.
وقال مصدر أمني بريطاني إن المهمة الجديدة ستركز على حماية أمن الملاحة وإن بريطانيا لن تنضم إلى العقوبات التي تفرضها الولايات المتحدة على إيران.
