باريس، فرنسا (CNN)-– يستعد باحثون في فرنسا لاختبار لصقات وعلكة النيكوتين على مصابين بفيروس كورونا المستجد، بعد أن وجدت دراسة أجراها مستشفى جامعي كبير في باريس أن المدخنين قد يكونون أقل عرضة للإصابة بالفيروس.
وقال البروفيسور جان فرانسوا دلفراسي، أخصائي علم المناعة ورئيس المجلس العلمي الذي يقدم المشورة للحكومة الفرنسية، في تصريح لإذاعة “فرانس انفو”، إن “لدينا انطباع بأن النيكوتين الموجود في التبغ يحمي من الفيروس”.
وشملت الدراسة، التي نُشرت على المنصة العلمية Qeios من قبل علماء من مستشفى Pitié-Salpêtrière، حوالي 480 مريضًا ثبتت إصابتهم بالفيروس، و350 منهم دخلوا المستشفى بأعراض خطيرة، بينما كان الباقون لديهم أعراض أقل حدة أو بدون أعراض على الإطلاق وتعافوا في المنزل.
وكتب الفريق البحثي: “تشير دراستنا في كل من المرضى الخارجيين والمرضى الذين دخلوا المستشفى إلى أن المدخنين اليوميين لديهم احتمالية أقل بكثير لظهور أعراض أو عدوى شديدة بفيروس كورونا مقارنة مع عامة الناس”.
وأظهرت الأرقام من مستشفيات باريس أن من بين 11 ألف مريض تم إدخالهم إلى المستشفى بسبب كورونا كان 8.5% منهم فقط مدخنين، بينما تبلغ تقديرات نسبة الأشخاص الذين يدخنون يوميا في فرنسا بنحو 25 ٪ من السكان.
يخطط العلماء الآن للتحقق من الدراسة عن طريق اختبار لصقات النيكوتين وعلكة النيكوتين على عينة من المصابين بكورونا في المستشفى والعاملين في مجال الرعاية الصحية في باريس.
وتضفي نتائج هذه الدراسة المصداقية على دراسة صينية نشرت في نهاية مارس في دورية New England الطبية، وأشارت إلى أن 12.6 ٪ من بين 1000 مصاب بكورونا كانوا مدخنين، في حين أن عدد المدخنين في الصين يبلغ حوالي 28٪.
بينما تؤكد منظمة الصحة العالمية وإدارة الغذاء والدواء الأمريكية من أن فيروس كورونا يؤثر على الرئتين وتحذران من أن أولئك الذين يدخنون السجائر قد يكونون في خطر متزايد.
