اندبندنت عربية \ إبراهيم العريس باحث وكاتب من ناحية مبدئية، كانت العشية هادئة في ذلك اليوم الخريفي الدافئ من أكتوبر (تشرين الأول) عام 1938 حين فوجئ ملايين مستمعي الراديو الأميركيين، وهم يصغون إلى برنامج تمثيلي درامي تبثّه محطة “سي بي أس”، بالمذيع يقطع البرنامج ليعلن بصوت مراسل المحطة في نيوجيرسي خبراً ما كان أحد يتوقعه يتحدث عن غزو أهل المريخ لكوكب الأرض. صحيح أن البرنامج الذي كان يُبث يتحدث تحديداً عن ذلك الغزو الذي من شأنه أن ينبّه المستمعين إلى أن ثمة في الأمر لعبة فنية، لكن مئات الألوف من بين هؤلاء لم يستوعبوا فكرة الربط، فإذا بالرعب يأكلهم وإذا بالمكالمات الهاتفية تنهال على المحطة وعلى أقسام الشرطة وعلى المراصد العلمية، متسائلة عما يحدث بهلع، في وقت راحت سيارات الإسعاف تنقل إلى العيادات عدداً من الأشخاص أصيبوا بانهيارات عصبية. يومها مرت ساعة أو نحو ساعة قبل أن يتبيّن أن الخبر مزيّف وأن ثمة فتى موهوباً استنبط تلك الفكرة العبقرية للفت النظر إلى برنامجه ومواهبه، فنجح في ذلك بأكثر كثيراً مما كان يمكنه أن يتوقع. كان اسم الفتى أورسون ويلز. من الراديو إلى الشاشة سيدرك الناس لاحقاً ألا قرابة تربطه بويلز آخر هو سميّه الكاتب الإنجليزي إتش جي ويلز، الذي اقتبس أورسون منه ذلك العمل الأدبي الذي سيدخله تاريخ الفن من باب عريض وهو بالكاد وصل إلى الثالثة والعشرين من عمره. ونعرف أن أورسون ويلز نفسه لن يلبث بعد أعوام قليلة جداً أن يدخل تاريخ السينما من باب أعرض بفضل فيلمه الذي حققه وهو بالكاد يبلغ السادسة والعشرين “المواطن كين” والذي سيبقى واحداً من أعظم الأفلام في تاريخ الفن السابع وأكثرها تجديداً. المهم أنه منذ ذلك الحين اكتشف الفن السابع رواية “حرب العوالم”، فاقتُبست أكثر من سبع مرات للشاشة الكبيرة، كما اقتُبست عشرات المرات لنظيرتها الصغيرة وتحوّلت إلى أوبرا وكتب شرائط مصورة. ومع ذلك، سيبقى اقتباس أورسون ويلز للراديو أشهر الاقتباسات على الإطلاق والعمل المرجعي حول رواية الكاتب الإنجليزي، على الرغم من أن هذا الأخير كتب “حرب العالم” وأصدرها قبل أربعين عاماً من اقتباسها الإذاعي ومع بدايات عصر السينما، أي عام 1898، ما كان يستدعي اهتمام الفن السينمائي بها أبكر من ذلك. ما يفعله الغزاة الإنجليز مهما يكُن من أمر، لا مفر من أن ننقل عن إتش جي ويلز هنا حكاية تتعلق بكتابته أبعاداً سياسية قد يجدر به أن يغوص في السياسة بصورة مباشرة، لا أن يلف ويدور من حولها كما يفترض أن تكون حال “حرب العوالم”. فويلز، الكاتب وليس السينمائي طبعاً، يقول إن حبكة هذه الرواية إنما ولدت لديه من خلال نقاش بينه وأخيه فرانك حول ممارسات الغزاة الاستعماريين الإنجليز في ذلك الحين لجزر تسمانيا والإبادة التي مارسوها هناك في حق سكان الجزر الأصليين. فتساءل الكاتب غاضباً وهو الذي كان معروفاً بنزعته الاشتراكية والمناهضة للاستعمار وتحزّبه للجمعية الفابية التي كانت تضم عدداً من كبار المثقفين والكتاب الإنجليز المعادين للاستعمار، “ما كان من شأن الأمور أن تبدو لو أن سكان المريخ مثلاً، أتوا واقترفوا في حق الإنجليز ما يقترفه هؤلاء الآن في حق التسمانيين”. وهكذا كنوع من الجواب عن هذا السؤال الغاضب، كتب ويلز هذه الرواية التي سرعان ما صُنّفت منتمية إلى نوع من الأدب العلمي الرومانسي، بأمل تغييب بعدها السياسي، غير أن ذلك البعد لم يخفَ على أحد. ومن المؤكد أن أورسون ويلز كان يدركه هو الذي، حين بادر باقتباس الرواية إذاعياً في أميركا نهاية أعوام الثلاثين، بدّل من مكان أحداثها، ناقلاً إياه من إنجلترا إلى نيو جيرسي الأميركية وربما كإشارة إلى كونية الحكاية والتساؤل الملحّ عما يحدث لأي أمة إن أصابها ما تصيب هي به الأمم الأخرى الأكثر ضعفاً على طريقة القول المأثور “وما من ظالم إلا سيُبلى بأظلم”. الاقتباس السينمائي الأول بالنسبة إلى السينما، سيكون الفيلم الذي حققه الأميركي برايان هاسكن عام 1953 وربما استناداً إلى اقتباس أورسون ويلز بقدر الاعتماد على الرواية الأصلية، هو واحد من أول الاقتباسات للشاشة الكبيرة وربما أقواها، على الأقل حتى أتى ستيفن سبيلبرغ باقتباسه البديع بعد ذلك بعقود عدة من السنين ومن بطولة توم كروز معطياً هذا واحداً من أقوى أدواره، دور الأب الذي يسعى إلى الإفلات من الغزو المريخي لبلدته الصغيرة في الشرق الأميركي، ولإنقاذ ابنه وابنته وتوصيلهما إلى بر الأمان في بوسطن. ولنلاحظ هنا أيضاً كيف أن سبيلبرغ “أمْرَك” الحكاية بدوره كما فعل ويلز وهاسكن من قبله. ففي فيلم هاسكن الذي قام فيه جين باري وآن روبنسون بالدورين الرئيسين، لدينا عالم فلك شاب يُدعى كلايتون فورستر يمضي إجازته في بلدته الصغيرة ليندا روز بولاية كاليفورنيا، فيحدث ذات ليلة أن يسقط نيزك بالقرب من منزله وإذ يتفكك النيزك، يخرج منه صحن طائر يستأنف طيرانه بعد أن يكون سحق كل ما يعترض سبيله. وهكذا، خلال فترة يسيرة من الوقت، تتحوّل ليندا روز إلى مجموعة من المباني والشوارع المدمرة في الوقت الذي تتجمع أعداد كبيرة من الصحون الطائرة الأخرى لتنضم إلى نظيرها الطائر الذي كان وحيداً أول الأمر. وكانت تلك إشارة البدء بالطبع للغزو الذي قام به المريخيون لكوكب الأرض. السلاح النووي لا يفيد أما بالنسبة إلى فورستر، فإنه يندفع في فراره على متن طائرة صغيرة تنقله إلى نيويورك وفي صحبته الحسناء سيلفيا، غير أن الطائرة سرعان ما تعجز عن إكمال الرحلة وتهبط براكبيها على قمة روكي ماونتنز. ولكن حتى هنا، إذ يلجأ الهاربان إلى كوخ معزول، يجدان أنفسهما عرضة لهجوم عنيف يشنّه عليهما واحد من الغزاة المريخيين. ولكن فورستر يتمكن من إبعاد المهاجم قبل أن يواصل رحلته إلى نيويورك حيث نعود إلى التقاطه هناك وهو يشارك في مؤتمر لعلماء يتخذون قرارهم باستخدام السلاح النووي ضد الغزاة، لكن هذا السلاح ذاته لا يبدو أنه ينفع ضد الغزاة ويؤثر فقط في أهل الأرض. أما بالنسبة إلى فورستر، فإنه يلجأ مع الحسناء سيلفيا إلى الصلاة في انتظار موتهما. ولكن وكما تفترض النهايات السينمائية السعيدة حتى إن تعارضت تماماً مع رسالة مؤلف الرواية، تحدث هنا معجزة من النوع الذي لا يحدث إلا في الخيال: يحدث للصحون الطائرة الغازية أن تبدأ بالسقوط من دون أي مبرر منطقي الواحد بعد الآخر. والغزاة، إذ يخرجون من تلك الصحون ليواصلوا غزوهم مشاةً يتساقطون بدورهم ليس تحت وطأة الأسلحة والقذائف التي يجابههم البشر بها، بل بفعل الجراثيم المنتشرة في مناخ كوكب الأرض التي يعجز حتى المريخيون عن مقاومتها! الجراثيم هي الحل! طبعاً يمكن النظر اليوم إلى هذه النهاية المقترحة في هذا الاقتباس بوصفها حلّاً للغزو المريخي يحمل في طياته نوعاً من موقف “بيئوي” مبكر، لكن السؤال يبقى هنا: هل علينا إذاً أن نطور تلك الجراثيم ونرعاها لكي تدافع عنّا يوم تغزونا كائنات آتية من مناخات لا تعرف الجراثيم، بالتالي لا يمكنها مقاومتها، ما يجعل من “قذارة” عالمنا الذي نعيش فيه خير ترياق لنا؟ تُرى لو كان
