وتناول المسؤولان خلال اتّصال هاتفيّ قضايا تتعلّق بإغلاق الحدود بسبب الجائحة، وقضايا بيئيّة، كما بحثا في قضيّة الكنديّين المعتقَلين في الصين مايكل كوفريغ ومايكل سبافور.
وتناولت المباحثات أهميّة الاستثمار في البنى التحتيّة الماديّة والبشريّة (نافذة جديدة) من أجل إعادة البناء على نحو أفضل في مرحلة ما بعد الجائحة، التي تركت تداعيات كبيرة على المرأة حسب ما ورد في بيان صادر عن مكتب رئيس الحكومة.
وأشار ترودو إلى الأنبوب 5 النفطيّ وأهميّته لأمن الطاقة في كندا، وأكّد دعمه للاتّفاق المتفاوض عليه بين شركة إنبريدج لِنقل النفط والغاز و ولاية ميشيغان الأميركيّة.
وتمّ الاتّفاق على مواصلة التعاون في إدارة ملفّ الحدود الكنديّة الأميركيّة، التي أُغلِقت في وجه السفر غير الضروري بموجب اتّفاق بين البلدين منذ بداية جائحة فيروس كورونا المستجدّ في آذار مارس الفائت.

وقد أعلن رئيس الحكومة جوستان ترودو في وقت سابق الشهر الماضي، إعادة فتح الحدود الكنديّة أمام الأميركيّين الذين أكملوا التطعيم ضدّ كوفيد-19 اعتبارا من 9 آب أغسطس الجاري.
لكنّ الولايات المتّحدة لم تتّخذ بعد قرارا بشأن إعادة فتح حدودها، رغم الضغوط التي تتعرّص لها إدارة الرئيس بايدن من قبل سياسييّن من البلدين، من بينهم السيناتور تشاك شومر زعيم الأغلبيّة الديمقراطيّة في مجلس الشيوخ الأميركي.
وتطرّقت المحادثة إلى مرحلة ما بعد الجائحة، وكيفيّة مقاربة التداعيات التي تركتها، ولا سيّما على النساء، من خلال اتّخاذ إجراءات في مجالات التربية وحضانة الأطفال.
وبحث رئيس الحكومة مع الرئيس الأميركي في قضيّة مايكل كوفريغ ومايكل سبافور، المواطنَين الكنديَّين المحتجزَين في الصين ، وأكّد الزعيمان على ضرورة العمل للإفارج عنهما.
وتحتجز الصين منذ نحو عامَين الدبلوماسي الكندي السابق مايكل كوفريغ وصاحب الأعمال الكندي مايكل سبافور بتهمة القيام بأنشطة تهدّد الأمن القومي الصيني.
وعلى الصعيد البيئي، قرّر البلدان تعزيز التعاون في مكافحة حرائق الغابات في وقت تجتاح الحرائق مساحات واسعة من الغابات في غرب كندا والولايات المتّحدة.
ولم تغب أخبار الألعاب الأولمبيّة في طوكيو عن المباحثات، بما فيها فوز منتخب كندا في كرة القدم النسائيّة على الفريق الأميركي، وانتقاله إلى الدور النهائي.
كما أشار ترودو إلى فوز فريق لايتنينغ الأميركي من تامبا باي بِكأس ستانلي للهوكي على الجليد (نافذة جديدة)، متغلّبا على فريق الكنديان من مونتريال.
وشكر الرئيس بايدن رئيس الحكومة الكنديّة على الهديّة التي قدّمها له ترودو بالمناسبة، والتي هي كناية عن لحم مدخّن من مونتريال، وفاء بِرهان ودّي بينهما.
وقرّر الزعيمان الكندي والأميركي البقاء على تواصل وثيق في الأيّام والأسابيع المقبلة.
