وفي ظل صعوبة إجراء تقييمات، أشار المعهد الوطني البرازيلي لأبحاث الفضاء إلى استعار نيران جديدة، بعدد يقارب 2,500 حريق، وذلك في غضون 48 ساعة فقط.
ووفق المعهد، سجّل 75,336 حريقاً في الغابات منذ يناير (كانون الثاني) حتى 21 اغسطس (آب)، بزيادة 84% مقارنة بالفترة نفسها من العام الماضي. ويقول ائتلاف لمنظمات غير حكومية إنّ 54% من هذه الحرائق وقعت في غابات الأمازون.
“أزمة دولية”
وتعالت، الخميس 22 أغسطس، الدعوات الدولية إلى التحرك لحماية الغابات. فأعرب الأمين العام للأمم المتحدة انطونيو غوتيريش عبر موقع “تويتر” عن “القلق العميق”.
وغرّد “في خضم أزمة بيئية عالمية، لا يمكننا تحمّل أن يلحق ضرر أكبر بمصدر رئيسي للأوكسيجين والتنوّع البيئي”، وطالب بـ”حماية” غابات الأمازون.
وبعد وقت قليل من تغريدة غوتيريش، أعلن الرئيس الفرنسي إيمانويل ماكرون أنّ الحرائق في الأمازون تمثّل “أزمة دولية”. ودعا إلى مناقشة “هذه المسألة الملحة” بين أعضاء مجموعة السبع خلال القمة في بياريتس في نهاية هذا الأسبوع.
وغرّد الرئيس الفرنسي عبر “تويتر”، “بيتنا يحترق. حرفياً. الأمازون، رئة قارتنا ومصدر 20% من الأوكسيجين، تحترق. هذه أزمة دولية. أعضاء مجموعة السبع، موعدنا بعد يومين للحديث بشأن هذه المسألة الملحة”.
وكان وزير الخارجية الفرنسي جان ايف لودريان أعلن في بيان أنّ “فرنسا قلقة للغاية إزاء عدد الحرائق (…) التي تضرب الغابة الأمازونية منذ أسابيع”. وأشار إلى “تداعيات خطيرة على المجتمعات المحلية والتنوّع البيئي”.
في المقابل، اعتبر الرئيس البرازيلي جاير بولسونارو أن نظيره الفرنسي يملك “عقلية استعمارية” لحضه قمة مجموعة السبع التي تنعقد في فرنسا على تناول قضية حرائق غابات الأمازون.
وكتب بولسونارو على تويتر “اقتراح الرئيس الفرنسي أن تتم مناقشة قضية الأمازون خلال قمة مجموعة السبع بدون مشاركة دول المنطقة تستحضر عقلية استعمارية لا مكان لها في القرن الحادي والعشرين”.
أضاف بولسونارو أن ماكرون يستغل مشكلة محلية بالنسبة للبرازيل ودول إقليمية أخرى من أجل تحقيق مكاسب سياسية شخصية، واصفاً لهجة ماكرون بأنها تستخدم “أسلوب الإثارة”.

اتهام و”انعدام مسؤولية”
برازيليّاً، استمر السجال إذا ما كان بولسونارو اتهم منظمات غير حكومية بالمسؤولية عن اشتعال النيران للإضرار بمصالح بلاده.
وانتقد ائتلاف يضم 118 منظمة غير حكومية، في مقال مشترك، “انعدام المسؤولية” لدى الرئيس البرازيلي.
وبعدما قال بولسونارو إن المنظمات الأهلية ربما كانت وراء حرائق غابات الأمازون للإضرار بصورة حكومته بعدما قرر تخفيض تمويلها، أعلن أنّ الصحافة حرّفت تصريحاته بخصوص الحرائق. وأضاف “لم أتهم المنظمات غير الحكومية في أي لحظة بحرائق الأمازون. لا يصدق ما هو مكتوب في الصحف”.
تابع أمام صحافيين في برازيليا إنّه بالإمكان توجيه اتهامات واسعة تشمل المجتمعات المحلية والسكان وكبار مالكي الأراضي، “ولكن الشبهات الكبرى تقع على المنظمات غير الحكومية”.
ومن المبررات التي عرضها بولسونارو لتسبب منظمات غير حكومية بالحرائق “لفت الانتباه” إلى تعليق برازيليا مساعدات رامية للحفاظ على “رئة العالم”.
وقال “ثمة احتمال لا أستطيع تأكيده بأن يكون ذلك مرده إلى خطوات إجرامية من هؤلاء الناشطين في المنظمات غير الحكومية بهدف التجييش ضدي وضد الحكومة البرازيلية. هذه الحرب التي نواجهها”.
