قامت بعد ظهر اليوم الأربعاء القوات المسلحة الكندية بتكريم ستة من أفرادها لقوا حتفهم في تحطم طائرة مروحية قبالة سواحل اليونان.
وتضمّن التكريم مراسم إعادة “الجثامين” إلى الوطن في قاعدة في ترينتون العسكرية في أونتاريو.
وتمّت إعادة جثمان الملازم الأول أبيغيل كابرو إلى كندا دون البقية حيث لم يتم العثور على رفات الضحايا الآخرين حتى الآن.
وأُنزل جثمان ضابطة هندسة النظم البحرية في البحرية الملكية الكندية من الطائرة.
سيتم بعد ذلك نقله على طول الطريق السريع 401 ، “طريق الأبطال ” ، من ترينتون إلى تورونتو ليقوم الطبيب الشرعي بإجراء تشريح الجثة.
والجنود الخمسة الآخرون الذين فقدوا أرواحهم هم الملازم في البحرية من صفّ الفئة الأولى ماثيو بيكي، والنقباء برندن إيان ماكدونالد ، وكيفين هاجن وماكسيم ميرون مورين ، والعريف ماثيو كوزينز.

وقد أعانت الحكومة الكنديّة الجمعة الماضي أنّ خمسة جنود كنديّين فُقدوا قبالة اليونان إثر تحطّم مروحيّة الأربعاء خلال عمليّة لحلف شمال الأطلسي، باتوا يُعتبرون الآن “في عداد الأموات”، ليرتفع العدد الإجمالي للقتلى إلى ستّة بعد العثور في وقت سابق على جثّة جنديّة كنديّة.
وعُثِر على جثّة تلك الجنديّة الكنديّة (23 عاماً) بُعيد الحادث، بين حطام المروحيّة العسكريّة التي تحطّمت خلال عمليّة الحلف في البحر بين اليونان وإيطاليا، وفق ما أعلن مسؤولون.
وكانت المروحيّة سايكلون سيكورسكي سي إتش-148 في طريق العودة إلى الفرقاطة فريديريكتون بعد مهمّة تدريب عندما فُقد الاتّصال بها مساء الأربعاء.
وقال رئيس الحكومة الكندي حينها في بيان “اليوم (..) أشارك جميع الكنديّين في الحداد على فقدان ستّة من أفراد القوّات المسلّحة الكنديّة في حادث” المروحيّة.
وقالت وزارة الدفاع الكنديّة من جهتها في بيان إنّ “الجنود الخمسة المفقودين الآخرين الذين كانوا على متن المروحيّة، باتوا رسميّاً في عداد المفقودين ويُفترض أنّهم قضوا”. وأضافت “عُثر على بقايا أخرى خلال عمليّات البحث، لكن يستحيل معرفة إلى من تعود في الوقت الحالي”.
